Description
Over the course of this semester, you will be engaging in four critical reflections. Each of these allows you to reflect on the content you have read and apply it. All critical reflections must use sophisticated, academic arguments. You can incorporate personal experience or examples but it must be related back to key concepts or topics we have discussed and must be supported with ideas from our class. These reflections aim to give you a chance to think critically about this class, how your readings challenge your understandings of the world, what you have learned, and how each week’s content builds or contrasts other weeks.
For your final critical reflection please choose one of the following options:
1) Please identify one behavior or action that you think needs to be changed to better support the environment. Describe how this behavior negatively impacts the environment. Additionally, assess how this one change in societal behavior can reduce the impact we have on the environment. Include in your response how you would encourage others to take this step and what barriers you might facing implementing this change (think about the role of science and politics in your answer).
2) Do you believe we have a true meritocracy in the United States? Why, or why not? Support your answer with at least two concepts from our readings. Additionally, include one outside example or news story to support your argument.
3) Please identify several examples of popular culture and describe how they inform larger culture. How prevalent is the effect of these examples in your everyday life? Additionally, answer the following question in your response: How do you think your culture would exist if there were no such thing as a social “norm”?
All concepts used in your reflection must be clearly defined and incorporated into your analysis.
