Why do you think Adrian Tomine titles his collection
“Killing and Dying”? Use at least one specific example from each story to show how this title
applies to the whole book.
Essay Instructions:
Be three to four pages in length (12-point font, double-spaced)
Include an MLA-format Work Cited at end and MLA-format in-text citations. Some of
the texts we’ll read don’t have page numbers. If that is the case, you simply get as
specific as you can with what you’ve got. For example, if the book has chapters but not
page numbers, you’d cite the title of the chapter.
Assume that the reader does not know the book or characters, and so will need a
SHORT plot summary (three to five sentences).
Assume the reader does not have a copy of the book in front of them, so you need to
describe panels in enough detail that they can visualize.
Support an arguable thesis and explain how each point relates to your thesis
Tell the reader something they wouldn’t know immediately from glancing at the book
Use specific quotes and examples from the text to support each of your claims
Anticipate and address any possible counter-arguments to your own
Use college-level grammar, punctuation, construction, and spelling
