    Scenario

You work for your county’s public health department. Based on recent events, as well as local environmental and socioeconomic conditions, the county has noted sharp rises in specific health conditions (particularly in the county’s vulnerable populations). Your job is to create an evidence-based, consumer-facing infographic to help a specific vulnerable population change their actions to prevent further escalation of the health condition concern.

    Instructions

For this assignment, you will complete two parts and submit two files:
Part 1: Step-by-Step Approach OutlineCreate an outline documenting your step-by-step approach in creating your evidence-based consumer-facing infographic. Complete and submit.
    HSC3371-Deliverable-1-Worksheet.docx
Your submission should be 1-3 pages in length.
Here is the step-by-step approach you should follow:

    • Identify the health condition that has elevated concern in your local area. The concern could be long-term (e.g., obesity, smoking, smog, hypertension) or acute (e.g., influenza, repetitive stress injuries at a local production plant). Suggestion: Begin with the CDC’s Data Explorer Tool listed below in the resources for this deliverable. Alternatively, you may use any credible database or research article as your starting point.
    • Identify which specific populations within your region are most vulnerable.
    • Write a PICO question to discover which socioeconomic, environmental, or other risk factors make this population vulnerable to this specific health condition’s elevation.
    • Write a SCRAAP analysis of one credible resource you select to describe the specific population’s vulnerabilities.
    • Identify 1-2 behavior changes within your audience’s locus of control that could help curb the rise of this health issue.
    • Cite your resources on an APA-formatted reference page. You need at least three credible resources to help support your position.
    • Follow standard mechanics for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and writing style.

Part 2: Evidence-based Consumer-facing InfographicUse your research from Part 1 to create a single-page consumer-facing infographic. Be sure to include the following criteria:

    • Appropriate tone
    • Professional language
    • Identified audience
    • Royalty-free graphics
    • Identified call to action
    • Credible resource

If using images that do not belong to you, please cite your image sources and/or use royalty free images, such as those found on Pixabay, Unsplash, or royalty-free creative commons image-sharing sites. You may use screenshots created by the CDC’s Data Explorer Tool, or other credible data base that you used to conduct your research.
Suggested technology to create an infographic include: Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, Keynote, or Pages. Please save and submit your Infographic in one of the following formats: PDF, JPG, PNG, PPTX, or DOCX.
Submit your two files in one zip-file.

      Researchable Questions

After differentiating between consumer and credible resources, we need to develop researchable questions. The PICO format provides a typical framework to create researchable questions (Fyvie, 2018):

      • P stands for the population and the problem. Start by identifying the most important characteristics.
      • I stands for intervention. Start by asking the question, “What do you want to do to help this population?”
      • C stands for comparison. A comparison is used to decide which option is better. Remember, one option can include no intervention or a placebo. Not all researchable topics require a comparison.
      • O stands for outcome. Ask the question, “What are you trying to accomplish or measure?”

Here is an example of a vague problem transformed into a researchable PICO question:Case: You are creating a self-help guide for pregnant women to help decrease the risk of gestational diabetes. You want to find the best strategies. While a search query like this may work in a general Internet search, it is likely too broad to find evidence-based strategies effectively. We can see our non-PICO search query (“how to reduce gestational diabetes”) here leads to consumer resourced instead of credible resources:
