Microorganisms is a term to describe life that is too small to be seen with the naked eye. This includes bacteria, fungi, yeasts, algae, protozoa, viruses, and more. Most microorganisms are safe and used in our every-day lives, while a small percentage of them can cause diseases. Microorganisms play a huge role in health, industry, and environment. Louis Pastuer said “The role of the infinitely small in nature is infinitely large”, because microorganisms are found in every living thing. Earth, humans, animals, plants, and the oceans contains trillions of microorganisms. The possibility of the amount of microorganisms on the planet and universe is infinitely large.
Health:
Vaccinations are composed of microorganisms, most commonly known to be similar strains of a virus, to aid the body in preparing the immune system from a possible viral infection. A negative form of microorganisms that affect health are fungal, yeast, and viral infections. Healthy microbes are found throughout our body. One of them is a healthy strain of bacteria called E. coli that is found in our digestive tract used for proper digestion.
Industry:
Microorganisms play a role in food industries such as cheeses, wines, beer, and juices. Many of these foods require fermentation, pasteurization, and aging, all of which incorporated by roles of microorganisms such as yeast and bacteria. Fermentation of juices, fruit, and yeast produce alcohol which is a huge industry in America.
Environment:
Microorganisms that are plant-like such as algae use photosynthesis that metabolizes using CO2, a waste product of humans and animals. Microorganisms “play critical roles in such processes as the production of vitamins and bioremediation – the use of living bacteria, fungi, and algae to detoxify polluted environments” (Bauman & Primm, 2018). Some bacteria have been found to recycle chemicals such as nitrogen gas from the atmosphere into the useful gas nitrate used by plants.

When luis pasteur stated this he was implying that even the smallest of microbes play an important role in the world we live in.
In Health:
In the health or medical field, microorganisms are vital to survival. We have a large amount of bacteria that is good for us and protects us. In our food for example in cheese we have bacteria that help ferment the milk from which it’s made of. Bread contains yeast which is another microorganism that is involved with our food.
In Environment
In our environment microorganisms are also important. There are microorganisms in our soil which help our fruits and vegetables grow. Methanogens are microorganisms that help break down organic waste and make CO2.
In Industry:
Microorganisms are a huge part of the way drugs are produced. Penicillin for example is a microbe that has helped countless people when it comes to treating harmful bacterial infections.
